On Sunday, August 24th, the Spring Brook golf course held its annual Club Championship. With temperatures in the high nineties, more than a dozen competitors vied for the top spot in four different divisions. The battle for clubhouse bragging rights was hotly contested in all but one and Mother Nature wasn’t the only one scorching the course.
Judy Wolfram successfully swung her way to the trophy as this year’s only repeat winner. Her dominance in the Women’s Scratch division proved to be the lone runaway performance. In the Women’s Handicapped division, Kathy Bouzard’s score held up long enough to take the top spot.
Not to be outdone by the ladies, both men’s division titles were closely disputed but at the end only two Dons remained atop of the leader board. Don Smith and Don Marsich not only share a name, but for 2014 at least they also get to share the Club Champ moniker. They claimed their respective titles in the Men’s Scratch and Handicapped divisions. Mr. Smith finished in 87 strokes while Mr. Marsich put his name on the trophy with an admirable score in the nineties.
